Minecraft, the sandbox video game that has been entertaining gamers since 2009, has a myriad of possibilities when it comes to world-building and farming. One of these is the creation of a Guardian Farm, which can yield staggering amounts of items per hour if done correctly. Recently, we managed to construct a Guardian Farm that produced an impressive 600,000 items per hour in our world! In this blog post, we will outline a step-by-step guide on how you can build a similar farm in your own Minecraft world.
Location is Key
Firstly, it’s important to note that a Guardian Farm can only be built inside an ocean monument. I would recommend finding a monument that has the most flat area surrounding it, as it will minimize the need for land removal later on. A mod that shows where Guardians spawn can be helpful in the initial stages.
AFK Spot and Boundary Walls
An essential aspect of the build is the AFK (Away From Keyboard) spot, which should ideally be at a Y-level of 163, right about the middle of the ocean monument.
The next step is to build walls around the ocean monument, with a radius of at least 84 blocks. Sand is ideal for this task as it easily sinks to the bottom, but if you’re after aesthetics, glass is a great alternative. Circle generators can assist in building the walls, and a mod like mini-hard can be used to verify the build.
Draining the Ocean Monument
Guardians need water to spawn, so draining the ocean monument is a critical part of the build process. For this, you will need a fair amount of sponges and sand, as well as two redstone machines for efficient draining. Start by removing the water from the monument to get rid of the guardians, followed by removing water from the rooms inside the monument.
The Guardian Farm Design
Once the ocean monument is dry and clean, it’s time to start building the farm. The design comprises 20 portals with a two-block gap between each, where the Guardians will spawn. Waterlogged stairs allow the water to flow towards the portals, and the Guardians are almost instantly teleported to the nether.
Remember to mark out the location of the monument before starting the build, and it might be helpful to adjust the height of the ground or light up the area inside the despawn sphere.
Building in the Nether
It’s crucial to build the nether side as the farm construction progresses since the spawning guardians need somewhere to go. The nether side design is relatively straightforward. The guardians get killed by fall damage, and the items are pushed down onto the blue ice. Desirable items go into hoppers, while the rest end up in lava.
Finishing Touches
The farm building process involves constructing two portals, filling up the gap between them with source water, and adding stairs. A water breathing potion can be handy here. The process is time-consuming, but the rewards are worth it.
Conclusion
All in all, this project should take approximately 50 hours from start to finish. For a two-person team, it could be completed in half the time. Extra time can be dedicated to adding decorations around the farm, provided they do not interfere with the spawning and movement of the Guardians.
The result of this colossal effort is a farm that can churn out an amazing 600,000 items per hour. It’s a huge time investment, but the thrill of building massive farms and the payoff makes it an undertaking well worth the time.
